Frequently Asked Questions

I tried meditation before, but it didn’t work. I think too much. Will Vedic Meditation work for me?

Vedic Meditation is easy and effortless, even for those with busy minds. No concentration, focus or effort is required, and thoughts are welcomed as part of the practice. The simplicity of the technique comes from the use of a personalized mantra, or sound, which works with the natural rhythms of the mind and is preferable to the mind over any other thoughts.

Can I learn online?

Transcendence can’t be taught virtually. In-person instruction from a qualified teacher is required in order to assure that the knowledge, mantra and technique are imparted in their purest forms. The format of the in-person four-day Vedic Meditation course, as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, provides a complete understanding through a combination of personal instruction, first-hand experience, and group discussion.

I have a very busy life. How can I fit Vedic Meditation in?

The busier the life, the more necessary it is to have a daily practice that enables rest and replenishment of the nervous system. The optimal time commitment for Vedic Meditation is 20 minutes, twice a day—a small percentage of time invested into exponential benefits felt all throughout the day.

Is Vedic Meditation a religion?

No. Vedic meditation is a simple mental technique that allows for profound levels of stress release. It is compatible with any spiritual or religious practices. Although the Vedic tradition served as an inspiration to religions formed later in time, it stands upstream to any religion that existed or exists today.

Is Vedic Meditation the same as Transcendental Meditation?

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was a revered spiritual teacher from the Shankaracharya lineage of the Vedic tradition. Bé teaches Vedic Meditation and was trained to teach this form of meditation by her teacher and mentor, Thom Knoles. Thom was trained as a teacher of Transcendental Meditation by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and taught it for over 25 years with organizations affiliated with Maharishi. Since 1997, he has continued to teach this meditation as he learned it from Maharishi, and has done so independently and separately from the TM organizations. Thom trained Bé to teach meditation as he was trained to teach meditation by Maharishi. Bé teaches Vedic Meditation independently and separately from TM organizations and is not affiliated with those organizations.

How does the course contribution work?

The technique of Vedic Meditation is valued beyond measure. The course contribution is a requirement for funding the qualified teacher’s time for personal instruction. The payment is decided according to each person’s earnings and based on honesty.
